What is the history of Panna Cotta?
For a project in school we have to make some kinda food. That would be easy if that was all I needed to do but I have to find out its history too! I’m making Panna Cotta which is Italian and I already know that it’s name means “cooked cream” and its from Northern Italian region of Piemonte. That’s all I could find but anything else would be a big help because sadly what I could find isn’t enough.
Thank you if you have any information, it not and you tried thank you for that too!
Acording to wikipedia the exact origin is not known
There are, however, some additional interesting tidbits about it in the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panna_cotta
I also found this article, which gives some good information too http://www.lifeinitaly.com/food/panna-cotta
It’s also worth looking for info regarding the food history of the Piedmont region in general – it can tell you important information. For example – this article tells us that the region is unsuitable for cultivating olives. That resulted in people historically using butter and lard, instead of oil, in thier traditional recipes. To get butter and lard, they raised cattle, therefore milk and CREAM was always plentiful in the region. It stands to reason that one of the traditional desserts of the region therefore involves lots of heavy cream. http://www.deliciousitaly.com/prodotto.php?id=108®ione_id=11
Hope that helps!
